Built in Chester, PA, along the Delaware River, the WSFS Bank Sportsplex was designed to give athletes pristine training conditions year-round, and that shows up as much under the roof as it does on the outdoor fields. If you’ve been here for a tournament or a weekend game, you’ve probably spent most of your time outside. The indoor facility is worth a look too: a full-size turf field, two multisport courts, a two-story performance center, and everything athletes need in between. Below, you can see what each space offers, what you can do there, and who it’s for.
Why Indoor Space Changes the Season
In the Northeast, the calendar usually decides how much an athlete trains. Rain cancels a session, frozen ground shortens another, and by the time spring arrives, players are rebuilding fitness they had in October.
A year-round soccer training facility removes that variable. Teams can hold a full session in January at the same quality as a summer evening, which means development becomes continuous instead of seasonal. For competitive players, that consistency matters more than any single workout. Skills stay sharp, conditioning holds, and the off-season becomes a building period rather than a gap.
It also protects the schedule. Teams that train indoors aren’t rescheduling around weather, losing field time to closures, or splitting a roster across two locations because the only available space is 40 minutes away.
Indoor Facility at a Glance
The indoor building at the WSFS Bank Sportsplex runs 100,000 square feet, part of a 170,000-square-foot complex on 32 acres in Chester, PA, along the Delaware River. Inside sits a full-size indoor turf field and two multisport courts set up for basketball, volleyball, and futsal, with a two-story performance center above them housing a weight room and an indoor sprint track. Everything around the session is in the same building: six locker rooms, a recovery room, a café for athletes and guests, event space for teams and families, and a Kinetic physical therapy location on site.
What You Can Do Here
The indoor spaces support a full range of activity across a normal week:
Team training and practice — Club and school teams book indoor time for full sessions when fields are unusable or dark by 5 PM.
Speed, strength, and performance work — Programming for middle school and high school athletes in the upstairs performance center.
Futsal and court sports — Basketball, volleyball, and futsal on the multisport courts.
Adult league play — Organized soccer through the Philadelphia Union Adult Leagues and other adult social sports.
Camps, clinics, and tournaments — Including indoor capacity when a weekend needs a weather backup.
Rehab and return to play — On-site physical therapy that connects straight into performance training.
Community programs — WSFS Bank donates over 365 hours of field and facility time each year to non-profits and community organizations in Chester and Delaware County.
The Indoor Turf Field
The indoor turf field is full-size — large enough for full-sided training, small-sided games, goalkeeper work, or a tournament schedule that needs a weather backup.
That scale is what separates it from a typical indoor soccer training facility. Many indoor spaces force everything into a small-sided format by default. Here, coaches have enough room to run real shape and spacing work — defensive lines, switches of play, pressing patterns — and then break into smaller grids when the session calls for it. It’s the same turf surface used across the complex by the Philadelphia Union, Union II, and Academy teams.
Multisport Courts
Two multisport courts sit alongside the turf, built to host basketball, volleyball, and futsal.
Futsal is worth calling out for soccer players specifically. The hard surface and heavier ball reward tight control, quick decisions, and close-quarters passing — the same qualities that carry over to attacking in crowded areas on a full field. That’s the thinking behind the Philadelphia Union Futsal Academy, which uses the WSFS Bank Sportsplex as its home base and trains eighteen boys’ and girls’ teams here each week.
The Two-Story Performance Center
Above the playing surfaces is a two-story performance center with a dedicated weight room and an indoor sprint track. This is home to The Performance Lab, the Philadelphia Union’s youth sports performance program, which runs small group and team training for middle school and high school athletes.
Having the sprint track indoors is the practical part. Speed work is one of the first things to disappear when the weather turns, since it needs a consistent surface and sure footing. Indoors, acceleration and top-end mechanics stay in the program all twelve months.
Recovery, Rehab, and Everything Around the Session
Kinetic Physical Therapy, the Philadelphia Union’s physical therapy partner, operates a location inside the building, a few steps from the recovery room and the performance center upstairs. For an athlete working back from injury, that proximity is the point: rehab, return-to-play progressions, and performance training happen in the same facility instead of across three appointments in three towns.
Train Here Year-Round
Whether you coach a team, run a program, or are simply looking for somewhere to train through the winter, the indoor spaces at the WSFS Bank Sportsplex are built for it.
